For the baseline, you will need the metered building square footage, school population, and electric meter base line data. To enter the data, go to:
Here is the screen you will see:
Once the Challenge is underway, you will sign back in to update your electrical meter data at the same "Data Log-In" to add your meter data each week. Here are some meter reading tips. The "baseline" is a typical week of electricity use based on past usage. Your school business officer or facility manager should provide electricity bills for the past three (3) years covering all meters used in the Challenge for all days in February. Convert KWh into a weekly average using billing days and kWh. A downloadable Excel spreadsheet is available to help you calculate the baseline. You will need the days in the billing period, raw kWh readings, and multiplier if you have one. You will calculate a baseline for each individual meter and report the sum of those baselines to the Database. Here are example kWh readings and totals:
Initial Meter Reading
Five meter readings need to be taken at the same time each week for the Green Cup Challenge
For example, read the meters every Friday or the following Monday at 9:00 am. The initial reading (week 0) needs to be taken either Friday, January 22nd or Monday, January 25th. You do not report this number to the database, but need it to calculate the "Raw kWh" for weeks 1 through 4 of the Challenge. The initial and final reading of the meters must be performed by a team of two – one student representative and one faculty or facility representative.
IMPORTANT: Pay attention to the electric meter "multiplier". If your meter has a multiplier, the raw reading you take will need to be multiplied by this number to get the correct kWh. If the meter has a multiplier, you can find it on the meter or electric bill.
Here is spreadsheet that can be used as a worksheet for taking the initial and weekly meter readings:
Read and Report Weekly
Subsequent readings should be done weekly after the start of the Challenge (on the same day of the week as your initial reading) and submitted to the database by Monday, 5 PM.
The suggested data submission dates for 2010 are:
Feb. 1, 8, 15, 22.
To calculate the weekly "Raw" kWh for the database, subtract the previous week's reading from the new reading. This will give you how many kWh were used during that week. Enter that number into the database.
